The Nut Farm Wedding Venue | Why I Fell in Love with This Hidden Wedding Gem
Finding the perfect wedding venue is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make while planning your wedding. Every venue has its own personality, and sometimes… you just know when you’ve found something special.
On 11 July, I had the opportunity to attend The Nut Farm Wedding Venue’s Open Day, and before I tell you anything else, let me just say this…
“Wow.”
Not because it’s the biggest venue I’ve ever visited.
Not because it’s the fanciest.
But because it has something that can’t be bought, designed or manufactured – it has heart.
One of the first things shared with us was that the right venue will find the right couple, and if The Nut Farm isn’t your venue, that’s perfectly okay too. I absolutely loved that. There was no pressure, no sales pitch, just genuine confidence that every couple deserves to find the place where their story begins.
First Impressions: Hospitality That Feels Like Home
The experience started with one of the friendliest welcomes I’ve received at any wedding venue. Before I had even taken in my surroundings, I was greeted with a warm smile and the simple question:
“Can I get you something to drink?”
Now, one of those drinks deserves a paragraph of its own.
The Famous “Fridge Cigarette”
I know…
The name immediately made me stop. Apparently, a Fridge Cigarette is espresso mixed with Coca-Cola. As a coffee lover and someone who firmly believes Coke should just stay Coke, I was more than a little sceptical.
It looked strange. It sounded even stranger. But somehow…It worked.
It was surprisingly delicious, slightly confusing, and definitely one of those little experiences I’ll remember long after the day. It perfectly set the tone for what The Nut Farm is all about, doing things a little differently, but doing them exceptionally well.
A Venue That Feels Warm, Stylish and Effortlessly Beautiful
Walking into the reception area immediately felt like stepping into a modern wedding magazine. Two beautifully styled reception tables showcased different wedding themes. One embraced soft yellow and white tones, creating a fresh, elegant atmosphere. The other featured warm terracotta shades that felt rich, earthy and incredibly romantic.
Both were absolutely stunning.
The centre of the venue featured an elegant food display that almost looked too beautiful to eat.
Almost.
Scattered throughout the venue were little signs filled with personality and humour. My favourite simply read: This table is for you to eat…It’s those small touches that make a venue memorable.
Industrial Elegance Meets Relaxed Luxury
If I had to describe The Nut Farm in just a few words, I’d say:
Modern industrial with a warm soul.
Black steel.
Exposed bricks.
Open spaces.
Beautiful lighting.
Everything works together perfectly. The venue feels luxurious without ever feeling intimidating. It invites you to relax, take your time and simply enjoy being there.
And that’s exactly what happened.
I stayed much longer than I originally planned because I genuinely didn’t want to leave.
@trougoedjies Wat. ’n. Trouvenue. @The Nut Farm Venue Julle moet eenvoudig self gaan kyk om die gevoel te kry… want ’n video doen dit eerlikwaar nie justice nie. As dit van my afhang? Dan wil jy HIER trou. Die uitsigte, die atmosfeer en die hele gevoel van die plek is absoluut ongelooflik. Ek het ‘n hele review op my website so gaan loer gerus en kontak hulle, yes do it! Beautiful in Every Season
Visiting in the middle of winter meant the pecan trees had already lost their leaves. Normally, that might make a venue feel a little bare.
Not here.
Even without the greenery, the property remained breathtaking. The architecture, landscaping and thoughtful design carry the venue through every season.
I can only imagine how magical it must look during spring and summer.
The People Make the Place
Beautiful venues are everywhere. Amazing people aren’t. The staff at The Nut Farm deserve every bit of recognition.
I’ve honestly never been offered so much food and so many drinks in one afternoon. It felt less like attending a venue open day and more like visiting family, if your family happened to cook restaurant-quality food.
Every interaction felt genuine.
Nothing was forced.
Nothing felt scripted.
You could immediately tell that everyone genuinely enjoys what they do.
The Ceremony Space
The outdoor ceremony area is simple, elegant and beautifully positioned.
Standing there, you immediately picture the bride walking down the aisle. Just beyond it sits the reception venue itself, a striking combination of black industrial finishes and exposed brick.
One thing that impressed me most was the incredible sense of space. Whether you’re hosting an intimate wedding of around 60 guests or celebrating with over 200, the venue somehow manages to feel perfectly balanced, not too empty and never overcrowded. That’s surprisingly rare.
Three Bars? South Africans Approve!
Let’s talk about something every South African wedding needs…
A good bar. Actually… Three of them.
And honestly, it makes complete sense. The first bar serves the welcome drinks and canapé area, overlooking the farm with relaxed lounge seating that encourages guests to unwind.
Here’s my favourite idea… Guests can personalise their cocktails. Imagine having your cocktail named after you for the day. It’s such a fun, memorable touch.
The second bar is conveniently located near the ceremony area, allowing guests to purchase additional drinks before the reception without disrupting the flow of the day.
The third bar is inside the reception venue itself. It’s a simple detail, but a clever one.
Everything has clearly been planned with guest experience in mind.

Inside the Reception Hall
Walking into the reception hall honestly took my breath away.
Polished floors.
Beautiful natural light.
Elegant finishes.
Thoughtfully designed restrooms.
A dedicated coffee station.
And yes…
A gelato bar.
Need I say more?
A Photographer’s Dream
If you’re dreaming about wedding photographs that feel timeless, this venue delivers.
From the pecan orchard and open landscapes to the industrial architecture, exposed brick walls, ceremony area, stylish accommodation and unique poolside boma, there are endless opportunities for incredible photographs.
Golden hour here must be absolutely magical.
Accommodation That Makes You Want to Stay
One thing I always recommend to couples is choosing a venue where your closest family and friends can stay overnight.
The Nut Farm completely delivers on this.
Their glamping-style accommodation is unlike anything I’ve seen before. The beautifully designed igloos combine luxury with comfort and accommodate around 30 guests.
Every room is air-conditioned, elegantly decorated and ,my favourite winter surprise, each bed has an electric blanket. It’s one of those thoughtful details that makes you smile.
The communal kitchen is spacious, fully equipped and ideal for preparing breakfast together the next morning or simply enjoying extra time with the people you love.
The Bathrooms… Yes, I’m Talking About Bathrooms
Normally, bathrooms don’t make it into a venue review.
These deserve it.
The large window overlooking a private garden creates such a peaceful atmosphere that you almost forget you’re in a bathroom. Everything feels bright, open and beautifully designed.
My Favourite Spot
If I had to choose just one favourite feature…
It would be the boma. Without question.
Surrounded by a wrap-around pool, it creates one of the most unique spaces I’ve seen at a wedding venue.
Modern.
Architectural.
Relaxed.
Beautiful.
As someone who absolutely loves being around water, this little corner completely stole my heart.
Built on a Dream
One of the most meaningful parts of visiting The Nut Farm was learning about the story behind it.
Owners Jamie and Shanell left city life behind to pursue a dream, despite having no farming background. They built the venue with their own hands, celebrated their own wedding there, opened just before the COVID-19 pandemic, and continued growing both their family and their business through challenging times.
Knowing that history changes the way you experience the venue.
Every corner feels intentional.
Every detail has a purpose.
You don’t simply feel like you’re visiting a wedding venue.
You feel like you’re stepping into someone’s dream that became reality.
